I came up with a doodle I really like. I won't dare to say it is original because ther are so many doodle patterns out there- it's hard not to be at least derivative. This is my first attempt at blogging using BlogPress do I'm hoping these pics will post properly.

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08771514243832994524noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991776840952161084.post-20434657810461978042012-03-07T08:54:00.000-05:002012-03-07T08:54:17.117-05:00WEEKLY CHALLENGE #61

Doing the 3.5 X 3.5 inch tiles is killing my eyesight so I got out my 8.5 x 11 card stock to use for tangling and Oh, what a relief! Now I can enjoy tangling for longer periods of time-I was going cross-eyed on those little tiles. Here's this week's challenge from iamthediva.blogspot.com.donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08771514243832994524noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991776840952161084.post-28448461257629865622012-02-28T12:29:00.002-05:002012-02-28T12:29:32.571-05:00WEEKLY CHALLENGE #60

I took a few liberties with this week's challenge. The duo-tangle challenge was to use Molly's Munchkin and Cinquital only. I gave Cinquital a bit more symmetry because, well, because I like symmetry. Inside the circles I drew polygons (pentagons and hexagons to be exact) and then oriented the curved spikey thingies around them. I love the pen I used for these. I made a trip to the Hobby Lobby and bought a disgraceful number of pens to try out and spent an equally disgraceful amount of money. This particular pen was cheap though ($1.99) and it makes the finest line I've ever seen. It's manufactured by Kuretake and is called a ZIG Memory Systems Millenium MS-01. It's great for drawing the lines but I had to get out a broader pen for the solid black. I'd be coloring in the black til next year if I tried it with the Kuretake pen.donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08771514243832994524noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991776840952161084.post-57643504512858669802012-02-22T10:22:00.001-05:002012-02-23T04:39:24.002-05:00Weekly Challenge #59 Mardi Gras

I tried to include as many Mardi Gras elements as I could think of...there's the mask, a jester hat, a crown, piano keys and music, beads and a very poor representation of a fleur-de-lis...but I am generally pleased with this effort. The orignal string was a stylized "N" and "O" for New Orleans. This was so much fun!donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08771514243832994524noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991776840952161084.post-54253186380282663382012-02-06T13:29:00.001-05:002012-02-06T13:32:57.194-05:00Hartzenpozies

I made my first tangle pattern today!

1. Must knit garments. No more accessories or toys or bags or such until I have the two sweaters that are on my needles finished. I need clothes, not scarves or shawlettes for Petey's sake!

2. Conquer the procrastination proclivity

ok...this is just the start...there will be more notions to come but these two are preying on my mind right now and if I don't write them down I won't remember them in five minutes.

Thanks to PlanetJune http://www.planetjune.com/blog/beaded-poinsettia/ I've been inspired to try making one snowflake ornament every year using a different technique each time...of course, my first one will be tatted...now I'm off to find the perfect tatted snowflake pattern.

Exciting news: my LYS has asked if I will teach a tatting class...this will be great fun!!!donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08771514243832994524noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991776840952161084.post-52908726170217843172011-08-01T08:51:00.003-04:002011-08-01T08:51:19.827-04:00
Published with Blogger-droid v1.7.4
donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08771514243832994524noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991776840952161084.post-18232457334611515342011-08-01T08:51:00.001-04:002011-08-01T08:51:17.049-04:00Pennsylvania Guild Fine Crafts Fair

True confession time: I went to the Pennsylvania Guild show for only one reason-too see Elizabeth Zipay's gorgeous work in person. I bought two balls of orange thread and two lace hankies for $4, a vintage tatting book for $3, four tatting edged doilies for $5, and here's the grand prize-four vintage tatting shuttles and a crochet hook for $6 and a beautiful treasure box for my tatting for $18!
Published with Blogger-droid v1.6.7
donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08771514243832994524noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991776840952161084.post-29376050844348850812011-02-21T10:11:00.003-05:002011-02-21T10:41:56.674-05:00How I Came to Be a Tatter

Many tatters have been posting stories about how they became a tatter so I thought I would pitch in my two cents. Many years ago...I'm guessing between 25 and 30 years ago I had the opportunity to go to a needlework trade show in Baltimore, MD. We stumbled upon Adrianne B. Rice's booth where she was promoting her Dillie Delights tatting book. It hadn't been released yet but meeting and talking with her was enough to spark my interest in tatting. Later I did purchase both of her Dillie Delights books but have since sold them. I tried desperately to teach myself to tat...from that old Coats booklet with the green cover that teaches knitting, crocheting, tatting, huck weaving, etc...with no success. Fortunately, one of my coworkers knew how to tat and showed me the flip. Unfortunately, there wasn't much in the way of support for tatters back then so it slipped to the back burner. And then came cyberspace-and ever since I discovered tatting on the 'net back in 1997 I've been a tatting fool (in between bouts of knitting, crocheting, rug hooking, and quilting). I have bags and bags and bags of completed tatting now and really no concept of what to do with them. I just love trying new patterns and techniques but I rarely have a purpose in mind for the finished product.

Currently I am tatting with a purpose. I am tatting an edging for a little linen runner I want to place on the back of the toilet. My choice of thread is quite unusual though...it is a silk knitting yarn from Schaefer yarns called Andrea...and it tats beautifully. It's quite expensive, but is massive in yardage...1093 yards. I may even decide to tat an edging for the window top treatment. I'm using a pattern from Bessie Attenborough's book "Tatting". My adorable Manx kitty, Little Bit loves to help with the tatting...lol.

donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08771514243832994524noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991776840952161084.post-2429969618405247192011-01-14T07:08:00.001-05:002011-01-14T07:08:12.408-05:00Tatting Fever

Yes...more earrings from yarnplayer's Quadrille pattern. I can't believe I haven't posted here since February. So many wonderful things have happened I don't know where to start. Most importantly, I discovered a miracle: the love of my life. At age 55, I never anticipated meeting THE ONE...what joy!!! We are happily ensconced in his home on the river in a beautiful natural setting and just thoroughly enjoying the miracle of having found each other. It was an internet dating website encounter that took us both entirely by surprise. We met in December and have spent nearly all of our available time together since. He is a true soulmate.

I've been knitting like a fiend and consequently have aggravated an old repetitive motion injury in my left hand. So now I've had to take up my hand pieced quilting for a while to give it a rest. I'm also getting ready to dive into rug hooking again. I took lessons about 16 years ago so hopefully I will still remember how.

Enough with the update...duty calls. Thank God it's Friday and bonus check payout day to boot! Bye for now.
donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08771514243832994524noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991776840952161084.post-50480791328762685322010-02-18T06:27:00.002-05:002010-02-18T06:40:59.817-05:00Where Have I Been?Oh! The Places I've Been! These last few months have been amazing beyond mere words. I embarked on a 180 degree turnaround in my thinking about three or four months ago-I've turned away from 54 years of negativity to embrace a more positive attitude. One of the first results of that was that I found a true soul mate...so that's where I've been...developing the new me and enjoying the beginnings of what promises to be the best and healthiest relationship I've ever experienced. I've also lost 40 pounds and feel physically better than I have in years...yay me!

Additionally, I've embarked on a new blog collaboration with a friend. We wanted to present some debate and discussion about issues of concern (big ones and little ones) in a nonpolitical folksy kind of way that wouldn't require a dictionary or a doctorate degree to understand. We created this blog . Please take a look and leave a comment about what you think.

I haven't been doing much in the fiber or textiles much as my left hand needed a nice long rest to heal a repetitive motion injury. I'm just beginning to return to knitting and spinninng a wee bit at a time...hopefully soon I'll have some FO's to share with you.

donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08771514243832994524noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991776840952161084.post-12833348239397129602009-11-13T18:39:00.003-05:002009-11-13T18:57:12.467-05:00A Little Christmas Stitching
Every year I attempt to stitch at least one new Christmas ornament. Although I finish the cross stitching I never seem to "finish" the ornament. Consequently, I have a bag chock full of cross-stitch Christmas designs waiting to become ornaments. This year's contribution to the bag is from Just Cross Stitch 2009 Ornament issue. It's called Caroline from Miss Crescent's Crowne and it really is adorable. I was fortunate enough to find the PERFECT fabric for "finishing" it at Hancock's (that's it in the background-don't some of those snowflakes look exactly like the cross stitched ones?). I used a DMC variegated thread for the body of the bird and whatever DMC floss looked good to me for the green and gold and DMC white for the snowflakes. Since the picture was taken I have finished the cross stitch but of course I haven't "finished" the ornament.

donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08771514243832994524noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991776840952161084.post-70808350615993958462009-11-01T10:44:00.002-05:002009-11-01T10:52:17.080-05:00NaNiNaNiBooBooOkay...so I couldn't remember what it's called but I know there's an effort underway to encourage bloggers to post every day in November. If you see my history, I'm an erratic blogger at best so it would be fruitless to even think about participating in the "official effort". So, I'm starting my own blogging challenge called NaNiNaNiBooBoo and here are the rules:

1. Post once (any day, any month, any year). Blog entries prior to November 1, 2009 can count towards your total.

Yep...that's it...one rule. So I'm done...having successfully completed the NaNiNaNiBooBoo challenge I can feel good about finally having finished SOMETHING!!!

donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08771514243832994524noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991776840952161084.post-66773562377851018302009-10-23T19:17:00.003-04:002009-10-23T19:39:00.459-04:00I'm so excited...No, the Pointer Sisters haven't asked me to sing with them (boy did they dodge a bullet there :)). Some time ago I purchased a quaker sampler chart and cross stitch software combo from Needleprint and I have been putzing around with the software ever since. I created a little Christmas sampler and an ornament and sent it to Jacqueline (the owner of the Needleprint blog) and she has "published" it on her blog today. You can see here . She is offering it free in pdf or in jgg format (jgg is the Jane Greenoff cross stitch software format). This is my first foray into cross stitch design and I am so delighted that she deemed it worthy of posting to her website. I'll be watching anxiously to see if anyone actually stitches it-then I'll feel like a real designer.donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08771514243832994524noreply@blogger.com2
